This is great!  Scarlet Moon Records has released the Saturday Morning RPG Original Soundtrack, featuring the work of legendary musician Vince DiCola – known for his work on Transformers: The Movie and  Rocky IV – and his writing partner, Kenny Meriedeth.  The soundtrack features additional work by  Jake “virt” Kaufman, Grant “stemage” Henry, and Dmitry “C-jeff” Zhemkov, who provide their own unique arrangements from the soundtrack.

Those familiar with Vince DiCola’s work will feel right at home among the heavy synth-infused progressive rock soundscapes that DiCola and Meriedeth have crafted. As  Saturday Morning RPG pays tribute to classic ’80s cartoons, the main theme is appropriately upbeat and catchy, while the various battle themes should prove to be favorites among fans.

I’ve been a fan of Vince DiCola since my childhood, When I heard he was finally immersing himself in my other passion, videogames, I had to do everything I could to make sure as many people as possible would hear what he and Kenny Meriedeth have accomplished.

In addition to Saturday Morning RPG’s soundtrack and arrangements, the album also offers music that may be featured in future episodes of the game, along with the vocal rock track, “No Risk No Glory,” which hasn’t been released until now.

Everyone is happy with the results and it was a pleasure working with Josh Fairhurst and his team, I’ve worked in videogames before, but mostly as an arranger only. This was an opportunity for Kenny Meriedeth and I to actually compose music for a videogame, and after doing so we are definitely excited about future opportunities to do so!

Throughout the 1980s, Vince DiCola amazed audiences with his signature blend of progressive rock with emotional orchestral accents. He developed a dedicated following over his expansive career, which saw DiCola go on to become a prolific recording artist and arranger. DiCola has worked on titles in the videogame industry before, but never in this capacity, and he’s happy to give his fans a chance to hear his first videogame score.

The  Saturday Morning RPG Original Soundtrack is now available from  iTunes, Amazon MP3,  Loudr (where the album is bundled with the previously-released “Christmas Adventure” single), and  Bandcamp (where a limited-print physical edition is available).

In case you’ve been living under a rock and don’t know what Saturday Morning RPG is all about, the game is an episodic role-playing game set in world heavily inspired by 1980s Saturday morning cartoons. Players take the role of Martin “Marty” Michael Hall, an average high-school student who has just been granted an incredible power. This power leads him to attract the ire of the world’s most notorious villain, Commander Hood.

The story and gameplay of Saturday Morning RPG takes place across several episodes, each of which tells a complete self-contained story. Players can play any episode in any order, at any time! All of your stats and items carry between episodes. It’s a unique spin on the tried and true New Game Plus mode. On top of that, small decisions made in some episodes will carry forth into others – adding a layer of replay to each episode.

The game draws quite a bit of inspiration from games like Nintendo’s Paper Mario series. Battles in the game are turn-based, but the player is always participating by actively defending against attacks and completing reflex tests to power up their own assaults.

Marty fights all his battles in the game by channeling magic through everyday objects. Use a pack of striped gum to summon rainbow zebras that trample your foes – or call upon a transforming action figure to morph you into a semi-truck!

Everything in Saturday Morning RPG centers on nostalgia. Marty receives his magical abilities thanks to a certain kind of garish plastic notebook, he can equip scratch ‘n sniff stickers to get statistical boosts, and he’ll traverse worlds inspired by the entire gamut of Saturday morning cartoons.

Available for PC, Mac, Linux and OUYA, you can buy, play and enjoy Saturday Morning RPG from Mighty Rabbit Studios.
