A friend of mine just turned me on to this really excellent looking project from Japanese developer iQiQi Co.

Blackmore is a Steampunk adventure game that mixes Japanese esthetics with a dark, alternate reality, Victorian era London.  The game is set in 1888 in a world populated by fantastical machinery and technology based around automation, electronics and chemistry, but under the shiny steel and brass hides a darker, corroded underbelly, full of poverty. crime and murder.

This fantastic yet grim setting is the backdrop for Blackmore, a game that tells the story of Emma Blackmore, a young half-Japanese woman and daughter of the late Lord Simon Blackmore, inventor and nobleman. Emma lives in a huge mansion with her brother, Jonas Blackmore, her mother, Teruko Honda-Blackmore, and her closest companion, Descartes, a boy robot built by her father, Simon, to watch over her.

Together, Emma and Descartes must unravel a heinous series of crimes, and put her wits to the test, as they set out on a quixotic quest to find the a serial killer, and put an end to the terror besieging London.

iQiQi is made up of a handful of US and Japanese game dev veterans, responsible for games such as Snatcher, Gradius, Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid.

I have to say I’m looking forward to this one.  I love Steampunk and particularly the Japanese take on the style.
